O’Higgins, Chile — Agrícola Pobena has been awarded a Silver at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for Alonso Cuartel 50.
Agrícola Pobena produced Alonso Cuartel 50 from Picual olives in Chile’s central O’Higgins region. A medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil, Alonso Cuartel 50 is distinguished by green almond notes, parsley freshness and a measured black pepper kick that builds on the finish.
Alonso Cuartel 50 was one of six 2026 awards for Agrícola Pobena at the NYIOOC. The results included Gold Awards for Alonso Coratina, a robust monovarietal made from Coratina olives; Alonso Obsession, a medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil; and Alonso Picual, a medium-intensity monovarietal produced from Picual olives. Agrícola Pobena also earned Silver Awards for Alonso Frantoio, a medium-intensity monovarietal made from Frantoio olives; Alonso Cuartel 64, a medium-intensity Coratina; and Alonso Cuartel 50, a medium-intensity Picual.
Situated in the O’Higgins region of central Chile, Agrícola Pobena farms 600 hectares planted with a variety of olive trees. Agrícola Pobena’s work in the groves and mill is organized around the goal of moving fruit efficiently from tree to extraction, preserving freshness and complexity across the Alonso portfolio.
The 2026 results add to an established NYIOOC record for Agrícola Pobena. Overall, Agrícola Pobena has earned 32 awards at the competition, including 22 Gold Awards and 10 Silver Awards. Recent results include four Gold Awards in 2024, four Gold Awards in 2023 and three Gold Awards and one Silver Award in 2022, as Agrícola Pobena has returned year after year with a broad set of recognized extra virgin olive oils.
In the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, Agrícola Pobena is ranked #1 in Chile, #2 in the Southern Hemisphere and #14 Worldwide.
