Olympia, Greece — ASUR has been awarded a Silver at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for Gold and a Gold for Asur, adding two more distinctions to its growing record at the world’s leading olive oil quality contest.

ASUR earned the Silver Award for Gold, a medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil that is distinguished by notes of eucalyptus and leafy green herbs, with walnut undertones, an artichoke-like bitterness and a peppery finish. ASUR also received a Gold Award for Asur, also medium in intensity, underscoring the consistency of ASUR’s blending and selection across its range.

ASUR produces a blend of high-quality extra virgin olive oil for the European market, with ASUR olive oil currently sold in the Netherlands and Belgium. Founded by Tom Suring, ASUR was created after travel across southern Europe highlighted the difference between freshly produced extra virgin olive oil and the supermarket oils commonly available in northern Europe, a contrast that helped shape ASUR’s focus on flavor and quality.

ASUR sources olives from Greece, specifically in the vicinity of Ancient Olympia, and has worked with local partners in the Peloponnese after multiple visits and independent confirmation that growers in the area could deliver consistently high-quality oils. ASUR has said its selected groves are monitored year-round by an agronomist to keep standards consistent from harvest through blending.

In interviews with Olive Oil Times, Suring has also pointed to water scarcity and increasingly unpredictable climate conditions as significant challenges for growers in the Peloponnese, while noting that some groves located 300 to 400 meters inland have, so far, been less exposed to water stress. In a season where quantity can be pressured, ASUR has emphasized that early harvesting and careful batch selection remain central to protecting quality.

The 2026 results continue a strong showing for ASUR at the NYIOOC. Across its full competition history, ASUR has earned six Gold Awards and one Silver Award, bringing its cumulative total to seven distinctions, including multiple Golds in 2025 and additional Golds in 2024, 2023 and 2022.

The dual awards also strengthen ASUR’s standing in the global quality landscape. In the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, ASUR is ranked #9 in Greece, #66 in the Northern Hemisphere and #69 Worldwide.
