Ayvalik, Turkey — Ayvaco USA has been awarded a Silver at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for Ayvaco.
"As a small family business, we are thrilled that our bootstrapped beginnings and commitment to quality have enabled us to stand alongside such respected peers in the industry. As a third-generation producer, we are inspired to build on our traditional organic practices and are exploring the integration of biodynamic methods.," said Erin and Umut Birlik, Co-Owners and Producers at Ayvaco USA.
Ayvaco is an extra virgin olive oil of medium intensity, produced from the Ayvalik cultivar. The oil is distinguished by herbaceous notes, fig leaf aromatics and a peppery, spicy edge, with arugula nuances that add freshness and lift to the finish.
Ayvaco USA traces its roots to a family olive oil tradition in Ayvalik, where organically produced extra virgin olive oil was long kept within the family and made seasonally. Ayvaco’s story, as the founders describe it, began in 2014, shaped by time spent cooking fresh meals and a desire to stay connected to Turkey after relocating to the United States through the family’s olive oil.
The 2026 Silver builds on Ayvaco USA’s record at the competition, bringing the producer’s total NYIOOC awards to two Silvers, following a Silver recognition in 2022.
In the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, Ayvaco USA is ranked #33 in Turkey, #124 in the Northern Hemisphere and #127 Worldwide.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, widely regarded as the world’s leading olive oil quality contest, is a trusted reference for consumers and industry professionals.
