California Central Coast, United States — Basque Away has been awarded a Gold and two Silvers at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for its portfolio of California extra virgin olive oils.

Basque Away received a Gold Award for Basque Away Arbequina (medium intensity) and Silver Awards for Basque Away California Mission (medium intensity) and Basque Away Arbequina-Mission Reserve (medium intensity). The three winning oils were produced from Arbequina and Mission olives.

Across the award-winning range, Basque Away’s extra virgin olive oils are distinguished by a green, savory character, unfolding with notes of chicory and olive leaf, layered with arugula and fresh herbs. Hand-harvested fruit and rapid milling within hours of picking help preserve the oils’ freshness and balance.

Basque Away is a family-operated olive farm and producer on the California Central Coast. Founded by Cynthia after 40 years of practicing law, Basque Away was named in honor of Cynthia’s mother-in-law, a botanist who was proud of her Basque heritage. Basque Away works with Arbequina, Mission and Picholine olives, hand-harvesting and milling within hours of picking.

The results place Basque Away among the recognized producers in this year’s competition. In the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, Basque Away is ranked #56 in the United States, #122 in the Northern Hemisphere and #124 Worldwide.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, widely regarded as the world's leading olive oil quality contest, is a trusted reference for consumers and industry professionals.
