Rome, Italy — Carma has been awarded two Gold Awards at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, recognized for the medium-intensity Essenza di Carma Bio and 100x100 Carma extra virgin olive oils.
Carma received a Gold for Essenza di Carma Bio, a medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil distinguished by artichoke and arugula aromatics, a radish-like bite and a black pepper finish. Carma also earned a Gold Award for 100x100 Carma, another medium-intensity blend that reflects the producer’s focus on freshness and balance.
Established in 2000, Carma is an organic permaculture producer that nurtures 8,000 trees across Lazio, Umbria and Tuscany. Working with four to five blends depending on the harvest, Carma controls the full cycle from the tree to the bottle and bottles only upon order, an approach that prioritizes timing and product integrity. Carma supplies extra virgin olive oil to chefs across Italy.
Carma’s approach to farming has been shaped by early advice from a friendly neighbor, an influence that helped steer the founders toward a sustainable model that later evolved into a permaculture framework in central Italy. Over time, that emphasis on soil health and ecosystem resilience has guided decisions in the grove, from how trees are managed to how the producer responds to seasonal pressures.
"WE WON AGAIN GOLD AWARDS!!" said Giulio di Gropello, Founder at Carma. "We are very happy to have achieved the result this year, It was a difficult , a ver yhot month of may has made flowering complicated e ferocious attack from the olive fly in september notwithstanding our precautions has obliged us to start harvest well in advance but the result has been amazing , incredible parfumes, some of the highest poliphenols in our history and probably our best result ever"
