Murça, Portugal — Coop. Agr. dos Olivicultores de Murça has been awarded a Silver at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for Azeite Porca de Murça Biológico.

Azeite Porca de Murça Biológico is a medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil produced from a blend of Cobrancosa, Madural, Verdeal Transmontana and Cordovil olives. Marked by herbaceous aromas, the organic selection reflects the character of Trás-os-Montes, where olive groves are shaped by a demanding inland climate and steep terrain.

Founded in 1956, Coop. Agr. dos Olivicultores de Murça is rooted in a region with a long tradition of olive oil production and forms part of the Protected Designation of Origin Trás-os-Montes. Working through a cooperative model, Coop. Agr. dos Olivicultores de Murça has focused on maintaining rigorous selection standards as it seeks to deliver high-quality olive oil while keeping the product fully natural.

In northern Portugal’s rugged landscapes, cooperative members have relied on coordination and shared infrastructure to manage the challenges of farming on difficult slopes and in dispersed groves. The collaborative approach has helped sustain production in an area where orchard access, harvest logistics and variable seasonal conditions can make each campaign distinct, while supporting a consistent emphasis on quality for oils produced under the Trás-os-Montes identity.

The 2026 Silver continues a steady record for Coop. Agr. dos Olivicultores de Murça at the NYIOOC. Across its participation, Coop. Agr. dos Olivicultores de Murça has earned seven awards, including one Gold and six Silver distinctions, with recent results including Silver Awards in 2025, 2024, 2023, 2021 and a Gold in 2020.

The NYIOOC result also advances Coop. Agr. dos Olivicultores de Murça in the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, where the cooperative is ranked #10 in Portugal, #72 in the Northern Hemisphere and #74 Worldwide.
