Valpaços, Portugal — Cooperativa de Olivicultores de Valpaços has been awarded a Gold at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for the Rosmaninho Gourmet Cobrancosa brand.
The 2026 results also brought a second Gold for Rosmaninho Superior, a delicate monovarietal produced from Cobrançosa olives, as well as a Silver for Rosmaninho Premium, a medium-intensity blend. Together, the awards underscored the cooperative’s continued focus on quality across multiple styles, from delicate to medium intensity.
Rosmaninho Gourmet Cobrancosa is a medium-intensity extra virgin olive oil produced from the Cobrançosa cultivar. Marked by a green, savory profile, Rosmaninho Gourmet Cobrancosa is distinguished by artichoke and tomato leaf aromas, layered with green almond and a black pepper note that lingers on the finish.
Cooperativa de Olivicultores de Valpaços was founded in 1951 to produce and trade high-quality olive oil in Portugal’s Trás-os-Montes region, an interior landscape of rolling hills and mosaic plantings that include olives alongside other traditional crops. Over the decades, Valpaços and surrounding communities have remained a stronghold of traditional groves, where quality depends heavily on timing and careful fruit selection.
In reporting from Valpaços, Olive Oil Times has previously described how the cooperative grew from a small founding group into an organization with more than 2,200 associates from Valpaços and neighboring Mirandela, while keeping an emphasis on quality. Olive Oil Times also reported that the cooperative pioneered a reward system to encourage earlier harvesting among members, a change intended to support fresher, more aromatic extra virgin olive oils.
The 2026 NYIOOC results add to a long competition record for Cooperativa de Olivicultores de Valpaços, which now totals 29 awards, including 15 Gold and 14 Silver. Recent results include four Gold and one Silver in 2025, as well as awards in each of the 2017 through 2024 editions listed in the cooperative’s NYIOOC history.
The 2026 awards place Cooperativa de Olivicultores de Valpaços among the leading producers in the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, where it is ranked #5 in Portugal, #19 in the Northern Hemisphere and #20 Worldwide.
