Chalkidiki, Greece — Dimitrios Garofallos has been awarded a Gold at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for Marmaro.
Marmaro is an extra virgin olive oil of medium intensity, produced from the Chalkidiki cultivar. The oil is distinguished by fresh herbaceous character, with green almond and arugula notes, lifted by rosemary aromatics and a lingering black pepper edge.
Founded in 2018, Dimitrios Garofallos produces Marmaro as part of a family business rooted in northern Greece. Marmaro takes its name from one of the regions where the olive groves are located, in the area between the villages of Olynthos, Simantra, Kalyves and Gerakini.
According to the producer, Chalkidiki olives are collected one by one by hand while still on the tree, rather than gathered from the ground. Dimitrios Garofallos also describes Marmaro as a low-acidity olive oil rich in polyphenols.
The 2026 Gold adds to Dimitrios Garofallos’ established record at the competition, with an overall NYIOOC history of three Gold and two Silver awards.
The result also strengthens Dimitrios Garofallos’ position in the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, where the producer stands at #24 in Greece, #83 in the Northern Hemisphere and #87 Worldwide.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, widely regarded as the world's leading olive oil quality contest, is a trusted reference for consumers and industry professionals.
