Radišići, Bosnia and Herzegovina — Škegro Family Winery has been awarded a Gold at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for the Krš brand.
Krš is an extra virgin olive oil of medium intensity, produced from Leccino, Oblica, Pendolino and Cipressino. The blend is distinguished by the crisp scent of freshly cut grass, green almond tones and a lifted anise note that carries through to a clean, lively finish.
Škegro Family Winery is known in Herzegovina for producing wines from indigenous grape varieties, including Žilavka, Blatina and Trnjak, and has expanded its agricultural focus to include olive growing alongside viticulture. Intermingled among the vines are 600 olive trees planted within the last 20 years, with the family participating in the harvest.
The family farm is located in the hills of western Herzegovina in the town of Radišići, between 132 and 312 meters above sea level and less than 30 miles from the Adriatic Sea. The area’s combination of Mediterranean and continental conditions, with hot days and cold nights, has made it suitable for both grapes and olives, contributing to the steady development of olive cultivation in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the 2022 harvest, Mirko Škegro told Olive Oil Times that the crop was healthier and stronger than the previous year. “The crop is better than last year. The fruits are healthy,” Škegro said. “I picked olives when one-third of the fruit on the trees was green, the second third was mottled, and the third was black.”
Škegro added that international benchmarking has been central to the winery’s approach to quality. “I go to the most recognized competitions,” Škegro said. “In New York, my oils have been awarded five times in a row, and I hope for a sixth as well.”
The 2026 Gold continues a consistent performance for Škegro Family Winery at the World Competition. Across its NYIOOC history, Škegro Family Winery has earned nine Gold Awards.
The 2026 result also places Škegro Family Winery among the leading producers measured by the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, where it stands at #1 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, #55 in the Northern Hemisphere and #57 Worldwide.
The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, widely regarded as the world's leading olive oil quality contest, is a trusted reference for consumers and industry professionals.
