Trebinje, Bosnia and Herzegovina — Manastir Tvrdoš has been awarded a Gold at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for Manastir Tvrdoš Chalkidiki.
Manastir Tvrdoš Chalkidiki is a medium-intensity monovarietal extra virgin olive oil made from Chalkidiki olives. The oil is distinguished by notes of artichoke and olive leaf alongside ripe olives, with a bitter almond edge and a walnut nuance that rounds out the finish.
At the 2026 competition, Manastir Tvrdoš also earned a Gold for Manastir Tvrdoš Kalamata, a robust monovarietal produced from Kalamata olives, and a Gold for Monastic Olive Oil, a medium-intensity monovarietal made from Leccino.
The awards extend an emerging competition record for Manastir Tvrdoš, which has now accumulated four Gold awards at NYIOOC, including one Gold in 2025.
The Tvrdoš Monastery, a 15th-century Serbian Orthodox monastery in the southern tip of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is widely known for its winemaking tradition. Historic wine cellars at the monastery, including one dating back to the 15th century, have become a popular tourist attraction, and Manastir Tvrdoš has begun introducing extra virgin olive oil alongside that established heritage, with details shared by the Tvrdoš Monastery.
Across Herzegovina, where the olive sector has drawn attention for its capacity to bring communities together, a recent initiative saw Catholics, Orthodox Christians and Muslims involved in the region’s olive industry plant 33 white Leucocarpa olive trees at a convent to mark unity in the area’s developing olive culture.
The 2026 NYIOOC Gold awards place Manastir Tvrdoš among the most successful producers in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, Manastir Tvrdoš is ranked #3 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, #83 in the Northern Hemisphere and #86 Worldwide.
