Split, Croatia — Sunjic Oil has been awarded a Gold at the 2026 NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition for the Sunjic Oblica brand.

"We knew our oil was gold! Last year's silver pushed us to perfect storage.," said Bojan Sunjic, Owner at Sunjic Oil.

Sunjic Oblica is an extra virgin olive oil of medium intensity made from Oblica olives. The oil is distinguished by a peppery profile that moves through chicory and arugula, with radish-like pungency and a spicy edge that lingers on the finish.

Sunjic Oil is a family-owned microfarm passed down through generations, with an approach that blends inherited practices with modern knowledge of olive cultivation and oil production. Sunjic Oil continues to rely on traditional handpicking while focusing on premium quality and the preservation of Croatian cultivars, including Oblica, Skradinska Krvavica and Levantinka.

The area surrounding Sunjic Oil’s olive farm carries evidence of a much longer history of production. Ceramic amphora fragments found nearby indicate that olive oil was made in the same area more than 2,000 years ago, a continuity Sunjic Oil says it is proud to maintain through its work with local varieties.

The 2026 Gold builds on Sunjic Oil’s established record at the competition. With the latest result, Sunjic Oil’s full NYIOOC history stands at one Gold and one Silver, following a Silver award in 2025.

The NYIOOC Gold places Sunjic Oblica among the world’s elite extra virgin olive oils. In the Olive Oil Times World Ranking, Sunjic Oil is ranked #35 in Croatia, #93 in the Northern Hemisphere and #96 Worldwide.

The NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition, widely regarded as the world’s leading olive oil quality contest, is a trusted reference for consumers and industry professionals.
